Six foundations hold up a moral world. Which carry yours?
Answer with your gut. There are no right answers.
Psychologists Jonathan Haidt, Jesse Graham, and Craig Joseph argued that moral judgment rests on a handful of deep intuitions. This test reads your reactions to 48 statements and maps them onto six foundations — Care, Fairness, Liberty, Loyalty, Purity, and Authority — as a percentage profile with a plain-language reading of each score.
The six foundations
Care
Shield the vulnerable, soften suffering.
Fairness
Same rules for everyone, no exceptions.
Liberty
Your life, your call — no coercion.
In-Group Loyalty
Stand with your own — family, people, nation.
Purity
Rise above the base and degrading.
Authority & Order
Order, rank, and earned command.
About the test
- What does MoralSelf measure?
- MoralSelf summarizes agreement with statements about Care, Fairness, Liberty, Loyalty, Purity and Authority. The profile is a starting point for reflecting on your moral priorities.
- Is the test free?
- Yes. The full and quick versions are free and require no account. You can view, share and save your results as an image.
- What is the difference between the full and quick tests?
- The full test has 48 statements, eight per foundation, and takes about seven minutes. The quick test selects 24, four per foundation, and takes about three minutes. Their different item sets can produce different results.
- What does a score of 50% mean?
- It means your average answer for that foundation is the midpoint of the agreement scale. Percentages are not population percentiles or measures of moral worth. The six scores do not need to add up to 100%.
- Is MoralSelf an official MFQ or MFQ-2?
- No. It is adapted from the independently published Moral Foundations Test. No validation study is provided for this adaptation or its translations. Score bands and political examples are descriptive, not diagnoses or classifications.
- Where are answers stored, and what does sharing reveal?
- Answers and the latest result stay in this browser when local storage is available. Shared links expose all six scores to anyone with the link, but do not contain individual answers, identity or the test length.
